Afghanistan shares strong economic ties with India. India, for decades has been a very important export destination for Afghanistan. The exporters in Afghanistan have been benefiting from “Preferential Trade Arrangements Agreement” signed in 2002 between the two respective countries. In the framework of this agreement most Afghan products can enter India under tariff cuts ranging from 50% to 100%. in 2007 Afghanistan exported dry fruits and nuts, fresh fruits, herbs, spices, gemstones, raw cotton, leather and carpets worth 69.86 million USD. Afghan Ministry of Commerce and Industries/EPAA is confident that trade and investment linkages between India and Afghanistan would be further deepened and India-Afghan trade would rise from US$ 216 million in 2006-07 to $ 1 billion in the next five years.
To further strengthen trade ties and exploit new opportunities with India, Ministry of Commerce and Industries of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Export Promotion Agency of Afghanistan in cooperation of All India Association of Industries (AIAI) with technical and financial assistance of BMZ/GTZ and USAID?ASMED organized the First Afghanistan Trade Fair at World Trade Center in Mumbai from November 6-9, 2008.
