| German MP Visits EPAA | | | | On September 26, 2007, Mr. Eckart Von Klaeden, Member of the German Parliament and Foreign-policy Spokesman of CDU/CSU parliamentary group visited the Export Promotion Agency of Afghanistan. The main purpose of his visit was to hear and understand from EPAA officials and exporters the current economic situation and assess Germany’s financial and technical assistance to Afghanistan. The German government is significantly involved in economic development and reconstruction of Afghanistan through institution building i.e. EPAA, advising Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Trade and Investment policy matters, WTO accession and so on.
Suleman Fatimie, CEO of EPAA during his meeting with Mr. Klaeden gave a brief overview of challenges and opportunities present in Afghanistan especially emphasizing on administrative and technical obstacles for exports. Mr. Fatimie stressed on EPAA’s role in removing these obstacles in order to encourage traders/exporters benefit from preferential trade agreements signed with India, EU, and USA. Mr. Fatimie mentioned that establishment of EPAA was a great step towards Export Promotion in Afghanistan and a good and productive example of German financial and technical assistance to Afghanistan.
In the end Mr. Klaeden showed interest to support EPAA in its efforts of marketing Afghan products especially in Germany and promised to attend Afghanistan Booth at the Domotex Carpet Fair in Hanover in January 2008. | | |
